The European Commission, after updating the data on the import of husked Basmati in the UK, has announced that the EU import of rice, according worked stood at a record level of almost 1.143 million tons, up by well-129080 tons (+ 12.7%) compared to the figure recorded last year and about 77,000 tons compared to the previous record that dated back to the 2007/2008 marketing year. The import flows were up both for husked rice (+ 13%) and milled rice (+ 12.6%). The import of milled rice stood at 664,506 tons – of which 314,265 tons coming from the LDCs duty-free – and is the highest level ever reached (+ 59,000 tons compared with the previous record set in the last campaign).
